Dis|integration is a collaboration with Dr. LAM Miu Ling. In traditional light painting, a stationary camera with its aperture opened for an extended period would capture moving lights as streaks of color. In this project, a robotic arm moves a camera through space. At the same time, the camera captures moving lights displayed on a projected screen. The movements of the lights and the robotic arm are computationally choreographed such that the captured images reveal ghost-like three dimensional objects. These images are then projected back onto the screen to form part of the moving light in the next capture cycle. As the cycles continue, the captured images become more blurry and faded. The very act of construction - the capturing process, is simultaneously an act of erasure or destruction.
